RENO DEVO
RACE DEVELOPMENT TEAM
The Reno Devo Race Development Team is a diverse and dynamic program designed to support junior mountain bikers at every stage of their development, from beginner racers to elite competitors.
Our athletes range from 10-year-olds racing regional events in novice categories all the way to 18-year-olds competing nationally as CAT-1 Juniors. Many of our older riders also participate in UCI-sanctioned events across the United States, providing exposure to international competition standards and advanced racing experiences.
Reno Devo places a strong emphasis on the concept of “team” and the positive values it instills in young athletes. While elite-level training can be isolating for some, our program fosters community, connection, and mentorship. Every training plan we implement is grounded in evidence-based sports science, ensuring that riders develop not only skills but also resilience, confidence, and smart racing strategies.
Training groups are carefully structured based on age, skill level, and physical fitness to ensure that each rider progresses safely and effectively. In addition to full team training, select application-only athletes can participate in a 12-month individualized training program. These provide one-on-one coaching with professional trainers, including personalized strength, conditioning, technical skills, race preparation, and nutrition plans, all designed to maximize performance while nurturing a lifelong love of cycling.
All training, whether part of full team sessions or individualized programs is created and managed by our experienced Reno Devo Performance Directors. Their expertise ensures that athletes follow a structured, professional approach to become the strongest, most confident versions of themselves while benefiting from a supportive, team-oriented environment.
RENO DEVO COACHES
The Reno Devo coaching staff and Performance Directors bring a wealth of experience and expertise to every aspect of athlete development. Our coaches Andrew Sizelove, Nate Hudson, Jana Buck, and Megan Beckam are highly skilled in areas critical to successful coaching of adolescent athletes. With that, their skills also include technical riding, race strategy, and youth athlete development, ensuring every rider receives individualized guidance and support.
Leading the team’s training programs, Performance Directors Matthew Balzer and Jonathan Lee apply professional-level sports science and coaching strategies to create structured, evidence-based training plans that maximize performance, safety, and long-term growth.
The Skill Directors play a critical role in the Race Development Team by focusing on the technical aspects of modern mountain biking. They work closely with athletes to develop advanced bike handling, and race-specific skills that are essential for competitive success. By providing expert instruction in cornering, descending, line choice, and bike control, the Skill Directors ensure that riders not only ride faster and more efficiently but also build confidence and safety on challenging terrain.
Together, this team of coaches and directors provides a comprehensive, professional, and supportive environment for developing strong, confident, and competitive mountain bikers.
